Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Information

Q: I already registered and now my child has changed their mind about playing. Can I get a refund?
REZYSA has a strict no refund policy.  It is written on the in-person registration form, on the online registration payment form, and on the online registration receipt.  The reason for the policy is manyfold.  The big one being that in order to offer the highest value for your dollar REZYSA is operated on a strictly cost recovery basis.  This means that within a couple of days of registration closing for any season that number of teams and number  of players per teams are set.  Based on those numbers we then pay for equipment, and hire referees for the season.  So within a few days of registration closing the majority of the registration fees are spent or committed to providing the best season possible.

Q: Can my child play down an age group?
REZYSA conforms with SaskSoccer age divisions, and policies for placement of players. That policy forbids players playing down below their age group.  In recreational soccer there is no reason why it should be necessary for a able bodied child to play below their age group. Size is not a large advantage or disadvantage in soccer. In recreational soccer all children play equally regardless of skill or ability.  If your child has special physical or cognitive limitations that would affect their ability to play with children their age, please contact REZYSA and we can discuss accommodations which can help your child succeed in an appropriate age group.

Q. Can my Child play in an older age group?
A.  We allow youth to play up a level to play with an older sibling if they are in the older year of their age group. i.e. they can advance one year early, but, not two years early. Any other request will be reviewed on a case by case basis and must be agreed by the President.

Q: Does REZYSA offer girls-only or boys-only teams?
All REZYSA teams are co-ed. REZYSA is recreational soccer and all players participate equally regardless of ability or skill level. Studies have found that the only reason to separate boys and girls into gender-specific teams is at puberty, in contact sports, when boys develop a disparity over girls due to increased size and aggressiveness.  However, that finding points out that separating boys and girls into gender-specific teams only makes sense in sports where size and aggressiveness are an advantage such as football and hockey.  In soccer, where size and aggressiveness are not a substantial advantage gender specific teams are discouraged in recreational sports.  It is found that, on average, girls bring agility, flexibility, strong intellect, and better strategy to a co-ed team, which offsets the inherent aggressiveness of boys and increases the skill level of teams. It is also believed that co-ed teams promote gender equality by having boys and girls learn to work together as a team.

Q: Can I drop my child off before the game and pick them up after?
We ask that you not drop your child off and not attend your young player's games.  There are a couple of reason's for this.  Firstly, REZYSA is not a babysitting service.  The coaches are there to coach their player's and organize their bench.  They do not have the time, nor should they be responsible for managing your child outside of a soccer context.  Secondly, our abuse management policy says that parents are responsible for their children and that children should not be left in a situation where another adult is solely responsible for their well being.  Thirdly, if your young player is hurt, it is you they will want to see, not their coach or league personnel.

Q. Can my three year old play?
A.  We have a 4U division, but, we are limiting registration to only children who will be four in the current year.  Take the current calendar year and subtract four to determine what the current 4U registration year is.  In other words if the current year is 2024, subtract 4 gives you a 2020 birth year.  In 2024 we will be registering players born in 2020 for the 4U division. The north, south and west zones offer programs for three year olds, but based on age on May 1.

Q. What is REZYSA policy on payments returned for non-sufficient funds?
A. Cheque or electronic check payments returned or refused for non-sufficient funds, stop payment, a closed account or any other reason will result in:
  • A $25.00  handling fee being added to the amount owing.
  • Full payment of the outstanding payment is required immediately
  • Any overdue payments not resolved within 48 hours will result in the termination of the player's registration. The player will be removed from their team until payment is received. If another child is available to fulfill the registration, the overdue registration will be forfeit and the registration terminated permanently.
  • Future registrations will require resolution of any outstanding fees before registration will be accepted.
  • Future registrations will require payment by credit card or cash. Payments by cheque will no longer be accepted.
For questions regarding this policy or to make arrangements to resolve an overdue payment please contact REZYSA at treasurer@rezysa.com.

Q. Are there any limits on photographing my child playing soccer?
Parents may take photos or videos of their child(ren), for their own use, while participating in REZYSA soccer. Photographs or videos of any others involved in REZYSA soccer are not permitted under any circumstance. Parents are asked to refrain from posting pictures of their children on social media that contain other children and may identify those children. As part of participation in REZYSA, you permit REZYSA representatives to take photographs or videos of your child(ren) taken during their participation in REZYSA activities. These images will only be used to promote the goals of REZYSA.   Your child will not be identified in any of these images.

Outdoor Season

Q. How long does the outdoor season run?
A. The outdoor season runs for 7 weeks starting late April/early May and ending with a wrap up tournament the third weekend in June.

Q. What day of the week are the outdoor games
A. The REZYSA outdoor schedule is designed to minimize conflict with other activities.  All games are rotated through Monday to Friday and through all timeslots. Some of the older groups play on fewer days of the week.  U04 will play once per week, all other age groups will play twice per week.  The exact days and schedule won't be known until a couple of weeks after registration is complete.

Q. How do I know if my game is cancelled?
A. Unsettled weather is a fact of life in Saskatchewan. The City of Regina may close the fields in cases where the fields are unplayable due to the weather. The City of Regina field status is posted each day at 3:00.  You can find the page here.  If the City closes the fields we are not permitted to use the fields under any conditions.  If we are caught using the fields when they are closed then we risk losing our access to the fields. If the City has not closed the fields every attempt should be made to play the game. Inclement weather alone is not enough reason to cancel the game.  If the weather is questionable you will need to go to the field to determine if a field is playable. A decision will be made on whether or not a game will proceed based on a joint decision of the referee(s) and coaches at the field.  This determination will be based on whether it is safe to play and and whether playing will do significant damage to the field. If, once a game starts, circumstances should change during the game the referee will consult with the coaches and determine if play should continue.  The major factors in determining if the game should continue is the safety of the players and the condition of the field and whether significant damage to the field would occur if the game continues.  We ask that coaches not cancel the games without going to the fields when the fields are open.  Too often one team cancels in advance and the other arrives at the field only to find the weather passable and the field playable, but no opponent.

Q. What is the REZYSA policy for game cancellation due to lightning?
A. Our lightning policy conforms with Soccer Canada's Policy.  https://www.canadasoccer.com/files/Lightning_Policy_E.pdf.  The  policy is..."When thunder roars, go indoors!" The gist if it is if you hear thunder, the game is immediately suspended, and everyone should get to safety. REZYSA games that are suspended will not resume.  That said, if the first game of the evening is canceled due to weather, the second game may still proceed if the area is thunder-free for 30 minutes before the scheduled game time and the field is still in shape to play. A decision on whether or not to proceed will be made at the field by the referee in consultation with the coaches.

Q. Where are the fields for outdoor?
A.  Click here for a map.

Q. What is REZYSA's policy for playing games in extreme heat?
Parents are requested to judge their young player's tolerance to the heat in extreme heat situations when deciding whether or not to participate. In cases of extreme heat, REZYSA games will proceed as scheduled. When temperature, including Humidex, exceeds 35 degrees Celsius at game start, there will automatically be a hydration break inserted in each half of the game.  The number of hydration breaks will be decided in consultation between the referees and coaches, considering the number of substitutes available on each team.

Q. What is REZYSA's policy for playing games when the air quality is impaired?
For regular season Outdoor games, if the air quality health index at 4:30 PM is seven or higher, all REZYSA activities will be canceled.  For tournament games, this policy will be applied 1.5 hours prior to the scheduled game time.  If the AQHI rises to 7 or above after 4:30, referees, in consultation with coaches, may decide to cancel the game at the field.
